Web Dashboard & Android App

Wiegon

Wiegon is an independent product from Büro Maisengasse. It is a software that allows different municipalities in Tyrol to access their waste management online and on specific tablets it’s also available for the recycling centres. Wiegon's main functions are: scales at the recycling centres that are able to send individual citizens waste weightings directly to the software and personal access to the recycling centres by using the personal waste disposal card to identify themselves.

My Role

Research, Functions and Requirements, Wireframes, Prototypes, Interaction Design, Visual Design Dashboard and Android App

The Problem

The biggest problem of the old software was, that it was neither contemporary nor useable. Since the municipalities normally only use this software once every three months to prepare data to calculate every citizens charges, it is even more important that it is easy and intuitive to use. In addition to this problem there was also no convenient solution for the workers in the recycling yard to add entries manually when the scales weren't working.

The Solution

The solution for this problems was to create a clean and useable Web Dashboard with the complete range of functions for the officials of the municipalities and an additional Android App for the employees of the recycling yards with only the most important functions.

Wireframes Dashboard

The wireframing process of the dashboard was very detailed and it took us six iterations until every function was integrated and placed correctly. Because this interface is data driven it was important to create a clear structure and hierarchy by using data tables, search functions and different filters.

Wireframes App

Because the Android App currently only has one main function it was also a lot easier to create detailed wireframes for the complete functionality.

Visual Design

A clean and simple visual design was especially important because everything is data driven. The biggest design challenge was organizing the data and placing important functionalities as useable and logic as possible. The more intuitive the design the quicker everything can be absorbed by the users - especially since the users normally only use this software once every three months. Data tables provide a structured way of showing large amounts of information and help creating a clear visual hierarchy.
